CGIAR glossary and vocabulary tables

This glossary focuses on the needs of CGIAR investments to support all their investments and partners

Why is this useful?

Controlled vocabularies, thesauri, and ontologies are essential for improving data interoperability. Shared vocabularies like AGROVOC and domain-specific ontologies (e.g., Crop Ontology, Agronomy Ontology) ensure metadata and keywords are consistently understood across systems. Standardized vocabularies make datasets more discoverable and easier to integrate.

This glossary features domain-specific ontologies such as Crop Ontology and AGROVOC, to help ensure CGIAR datasets are interoperable, discoverable, and aligned with FAIR principles, and, divided into:

Using general-purpose vocabularies like DCAT, Prov-O, or Dublin Core further enhances metadata interoperability across systems. Combining domain-specific and general-purpose vocabularies increases the chances of datasets being found and reused.
